Why listing is free forever
Commercial directories often work like this: a low-friction signup, a basic line in search, then a monthly fee if you want a real profile — or a commission if patients come through their funnel. That model treats clinicians as inventory, not colleagues.
AsianTherapist was built for fellow clinicians who already carry the cost of training, licensing, and running a practice. You shouldn't also pay recurring rent just to be discoverable by patients who are specifically looking for Asian and diaspora-affirming care.
Because the platform was designed and built in-house, ongoing costs stay small. The point isn't to extract value from mental health care — it's to give the community a directory that stays useful without a paywall on your name.
Basic listing and search visibility stay free. Optional Featured placement may be offered for clinicians who want extra reach — it is never required to be found. If anything material ever changed, it would be stated here clearly — not sprung through a surprise paywall.
Why we exist
Across Asia and the global diaspora, millions of people struggle to find mental health support that speaks their language — literally and culturally. Concepts like family shame, collectivist pressure, immigration grief, and intergenerational trauma are often invisible to Western-trained therapists.
Too many people have sat across from a therapist who asked them to "set boundaries with family" without understanding that in many Asian cultures, the family unit is the foundation of identity — not a problem to be managed. Too many have explained the same cultural context over and over, session after session, paying for education instead of healing.
AsianTherapist was built to change that. Every clinician here shares the lived experience of being Asian — whether born in Kathmandu, raised in London, or practicing in Singapore. Cultural fluency isn't a bonus here. It's the baseline — and the clinicians who provide that care deserve a directory that doesn't charge them monthly for the privilege of being found.
Who's behind this
AsianTherapist was created by a practicing Asian psychologist working in South Asia. Day to day in clinic — and with diaspora clients online — the same pattern kept appearing: people searching for someone who wouldn't need their culture explained, and clinicians who wanted to be found without feeding another subscription directory.
With the skills to build the product directly, the directory could stay lean: no enterprise software stack, no growth-at-all-costs playbook. That's what makes free forever realistic — not a marketing line. It's run by clinicians, for clinicians and the patients they serve — not by a tech company mining mental health for listing revenue.

Many directories charge clinicians every month just to appear in search — sometimes little more than a name and a link — or use a free tier that later pushes paid upgrades. We don't charge listing fees or commissions on your clinical work. Patients find you; they contact you directly.

The platform was built in-house by a practicing clinician, not bought from a SaaS vendor. Running costs are modest (hosting and essentials). There are no investors to pay back, so the goal is sustainability at low cost — not monetising your listing.
